Three people were killed and seven more were hurt in a chain-reaction crash that shut down U.S. Highway 75 near the Plano/Richardson border for about nine hours.
RICHARDSON, Texas – All southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 near the Plano/Richardson border are back open more than nine hours after a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles.
Richardson police said the chain-reaction crash involving seven vehicles happened just before midnight in the 3400 block of the North Central Expressway near the George W. Bush Turnpike intersection.
A Lexus SUV slammed into the back of a Cadillac SUV that had stalled in the southbound HOV lane. A Dodge car then hit the first two vehicles, and that crash caused additional collisions involving a Nissan car and an 18-wheeler. Plus, two more vehicles were damaged by debris.
In total, three people were killed, and seven more were hurt.
The driver of the Lexus, 27-year-old Haley Taylor, and her 6-year-old daughter both died at the hospital.

Police said there were seven people in the Cadillac. They had all gotten out of the vehicle after it stalled and were standing nearby when the crash happened.
A passenger, 19-year-old Alyia Khalid, died at the scene. The driver and four other passengers were rushed to the hospital with various injuries. Only one passenger in the Cadillac was uninjured.
The driver and a passenger in the Dodge were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles were not hurt.

The crash scene stretched about a quarter-mile, and the investigation continued several hours into the morning rush hour.
It caused significant traffic trouble for people commuting south from Plano, Allen, and McKinney.
The highway fully reopened just before 9 a.m. on Friday morning.
